Art Adventure Volunteers Needed at Hillcrest

We are excited to announce our 2018-2019 Art Adventure focus is EGYPT, Sunken Cities. This is a special offering and our training sessions are limited to 10 participants to start, and then others will be allowed as time/spots are available. That being said, we will need all the people interested in participating to complete the form (via the link below) no later than Friday, September 22, 2018.  I will be submitting in groups of 10 people and then add additional people as space is open/allowed for us. Try not to wait on signing up.

What is Art Adventure?

Art Adventure is a program out of the Minneapolis Institute of Art that aims to bring Art into area classrooms in a way that is customized for young minds and in alignment with our vision of community and inclusion. The program has been around in some form for 30-40 years. At Hillcrest, we are uniquely placed to have this program merge into the Artful Learning curriculum and enhance the creativity already happening!

What is the volunteer time commitment?

It will require you to attend a 2 hour training at the Minneapolis Institute of Art, an informational/planning meeting at the school, and the 1-2 hours per month commitment in your child’s and potentially other classrooms, this is on a sign-up bases and details are worked out with your teacher(s) or myself pending what you prefer. I (as well as many of the seasoned Art Adventure parents) am on hand to help with questions and support.

The focus for this year

EGYPT, Sunken Cities! More than 1200 years ago, two ancient cities were lost to natural disasters and the rising tides of the Mediterranean Sea. Two decades ago, underwater archaeologist Franck Goddio and his team discovered those cities, revealing monumental statues, religious images carved in stone, exquisite jewelry, and delicate ceramics—and a greater understanding of life during the age of the pharaohs. Don’t miss this epic story of their discovery.

If multiple people from one grade level participate you may be asked to help with a classroom other than your child's to ensure all classrooms are able to benefit from the experience. If you know of an incoming kinder parent who would be interested in doing Art Adventure, please invite them to consider this volunteer opportunity.

Tuesday, 10/30, 10:00-12:00 p.m.
